ASKED QUESTIONS
If you're new to the idea of an internet presence, you may
not completely understand
everything involved with starting your first website. Here are
the
answers to some of the most frequently asked questions we get.
Q) I only have a small
business, so do I really need a website?
A) A website can help you reach customers
you were
never able to reach
before. When searching for a product or service, consumers are more
likely to browse online than in a newspaper or phone book. Having an
online presence is much more effective in that it reaches anyone with
an internet connection, has the ability to be updated at any
time
and can provide a greater range of information about your product or
service.
Q) I don't know much
about computers. Will this affect how well my website looks?
A)
You don't
need to know anything about computers or computer
software. We specialize in customers who are new to website
design and will walk you through the entire process. Having
your own fully customized website is easier than you may think and Big
Dog Web Design can take care of it all.
Q) I hear terms like
domain name and hosting service. What do these mean?
A)
There are a few terms you may not be familiar with so here's a quick
reference.
- Domain Name -
This is the unique identification used for every website on the
internet. You will own your own website domain name and nobody else can
have the same domain name as you. It is
used as your web address to direct individuals to your website. For
example: www.yourwebsite.com
- Hosting
Service - An
internet service that provides space on servers that makes your website
accessible to the world wide web. This is where your website lives. All
of your website files are kept on a server that enables visitors to see
your website. Think of it like a library branch
and your website is a book in the library. There are many of these
"libraries" on the web and many more "books" in them.
- S.E.O. - This
stands for Search Engine Optimization. This is a service we
provide to our customers that enables search engines to find their
website when someone looks for it. Proper search engine optimization is
an essential part of the website design process.
